La Habana - La Havanna (Cuba)

Spanish Shipyards

The first notice of shipbuilding at La Habana by Spain, were in 1626.

Thereafter looks like there were not new constructions until 1724.

In 1713, D. Agustin de Arriola went to Madrid to ask for the construction of 10 ships and shipbuilding facilities at La Habana.

These ships were never done due to the War of the Spanish Succession.

The Arsenal works and ships construction finally started in 1723.

The Royal Arsenal Shipyard of La Habana was the main spanish port of the New World after 1724 in decrement of Veracruz.

In 1737 was changed the original shipbuilding place to a bay inside one, called "La Tenaza" with warehouse facilities.

This new shipyard was able to built 5 ships of the line at a time.
