The information for some of these vessels is very fragmentary, down to as little as a name in some cases. The date of commission is that of the first known issue of a letter of marque, that for the launching the actual date where known, based on the date of commission otherwise.

It is intended that this list includes only predatory "Private Men-of-War" aiming to attack and take enemy vessels as their primary goal and not merchantmen bearing a "letter of marque" and carrying cargo as the main purpose. inevitably some cross over will have occured.
