A French squadron in San Domingo roads attempt to leave port while a British squadron waited outside.
Ships of the line
The French lost the Imperial and the Diomede run aground, and the Alexandre, Brave and Jupiter as prizes. The three frigates were allowed to escape unmolested.
The Brave foundered on her way to England.
The Jupiter was taken into British service as Maida
