Kingdom of Sardinia Ships
Kingdom of Sardinia Naval flag
Sardinian's ships will be referred by HMKSS - His Majesty King of Sardinia Ship - before ship's name. These abbreviations will distinguish same ship´s name from different nations and government warships from pivateers or privately-owned merchantmen.
The story of the Sardinian Navy begins when Duke of Savoia Vittorio Amedeo II acquired with Kingdom of Sicily 4 galleys. In 1720 Sicily was exchanged for Sardinia. During most of the XVIII century the Sardinian Navy was limited to three galleys always traditionally named "Capitana", "Patrona" & "Santa Barbara". As a result of the treaty of Vienna, Genoa was granted to the Kingdom of Sardinia on July 9th, 1815. On March 17th, 1861 the Sardinian Navy became a part of the newly constituted Royal Italian Navy (Regia Marina Italiana).
