Ok worked it out. The french lists are missing a ship, the Foudroyant launched 24th Nov 1692 and renamed Soleil Royal in March 1693, before the launch of the Foudroyant on 14th Nov 1693. So there are actually two vessels which have been confused.

Interesting spot. I've just had a quick look at Demerliac and can't find a second one of either, but Winfield lists them both. One as the flag of the Comte de Toulouse and the other as the flag of the Marquis de Langeron. Needs looking into and I'll email Rif to see what he thinks.

in this list of French vessels is a Foudroyant 104 guns, also there is a Soleil Royal 102 guns. In there French first rates list foudroyant is listed as renamed Soleil Royal, however they appear to be two separate ships
